A small water dispenser can be handy for keeping fish alive, with some reports suggesting it can also be used for cleaning fish and other pests.RTE has been contacted for comment.
The device, which is mounted on a fish tank, can be activated by pushing a button on the backside of the pump and then pumping water into the tank.
Ricky McFarland, from the RTEfish and Wildlife Conservation Trust, said that the device was “a very effective deterrent to the pest”.
“It works by using a small, portable pump, so that when it gets too low, it can be replaced with a smaller pump to get it to work again,” he said.
“It’s really great for controlling fish, it’s a very effective device and very cost effective.”
Mr McFarlands added that the water dispensers were also “very effective” at keeping birds healthy.
“They’re very effective in preventing predators from breeding,” he added.
The water dispensing device has been used by many organisations around the country to help prevent the spread of pest-causing fish to local waters.
According to the RTV fish and wildlife charity, the devices are “very helpful” and are often used to deter pests.
“We use water dispensering devices to keep fish healthy in our fish tank,” said Ms McFarlanders.
“It’s important that people don’t just use the water they’ve got, it needs to be cleaned regularly and treated.”
